If you’re looking for the design scene in Melbourne’s east, then Richmond is where it’s at! Spend a few hours wandering down the main drags of Bridge, Swan and Church Streets and you’ll quickly discover a unique combination of south-side class mixed with Abbotsford edginess. It comes to life through a glamorous array of restaurants and bars, mixed with grungy pubs and music venues. At the heart of it all is Melbourne’s finest design brands, offering sophistication and innovation in equal hands, all on display for Melbourne Indesign.
What’s On Display
Innovation and style have been at the core of Melbourne Indesign, and European ceramic tile designer Atlas Concorde has championed these since 1969. In the brand’s 40th anniversary year, the Australian arm of the international benchmark designer is taking over the showroom of Sketch Tile Ceramics at Melbourne Indesign 2016 to showcase new and exciting ranges. The trend of style ceramics continues with Urban Edge Ceramics running a temporary exhibition for the month of August, launching exclusive at Melbourne Indesign. Urban Edge is showing Patricia Urquiola’s range of ceramics in a unique and never before seen showcase on both the 12th and 13th of August.
We know a great day of design is reason enough to celebrate and explore your city with new eyes, but a full day of traversing across Melbourne might leave you a little hungry, which is why we’re happy to announce that Cerdomus will see a takeover from a local pizzeria. Not just this though, The Dutch Design Collective, showcasing a range of the Netherland’s greatest designs, will be offering traditional Dutch poffertjes and other treats at the House of Orange warehouse in Cremorne.
Melbourne Indesign is all about the new – new experiences and new ways to see Melbourne drive the event, and Chairbiz are bringing this in 2016, with the launch of the Myriad chair from Boss Design. Myriad allows the user to create comfortable meeting areas, private huddle spaces or a chair islands.
Melbourne Indesign 2016 is also seeing the grand unveiling of the Shaw Contract Design Lab from Shaw Contract. The lab is a collaborative space for the local design community to learn, connect and be inspired.
